Important questions to ask before a project

In order to have a solid base and a promising start of an interior design project, it’s essential for the clients to take the time and list their main requirements as well as give answer to at least these four questions.

“What time do you have?”

This is one of the first questions you are going to be asked. Because things definitely cannot happen in a flash. No matter what perception you have that a project is finalized in a quick and easy manner, it is false. Every project consists of a deep research, a period of developing a concept, designing and extra time for delivering the technical drawings and the complete project can be seen in months’ hard-work time. Therefore, set aside more time to have a pleasing project result that both sides are happy with.

“What functions do you want the interior space to possess?”

Before being aesthetically defined by interior style a space should function flawlessly in relation to your daily round routine. Of course, this routine is different for every one of us, yet it can go within certain limits. Think of these exact limits. Do you want an open space combining a kitchen with a living area or you prefer preparing food in a separate room? What morning habits do you have? How do you like to rest? What do you insist on having as an amenity? What you cannot make compromise with?

These are few questions to just lead you think of a very important topic – the functional arrangement. As cliché as it may sound, the correct functional arrangement can indeed improve the quality of your life or increase your work efficiency.

“What interior style do you prefer?”

To avoid any misunderstanding regarding this point, it is very important to collect image references of interiors or details which you find suitable to your taste, and find out what you really like about them – whether this is the color palette, the floor or wall coverings, furniture or the whole atmosphere. The more you collect, the better.

Based on the collected references a mood board is being created, which develops your idea with the aesthetic approach of the designer to finalize a main concept which will be the core of the project. This ensures a realization of the project without work “in pieces”, cohesive interior and spaces designed in sequential relationship to each other.

“What budget do you have?”

It is good to set certain guidelines in order the optimal interior solutions to be made in regard of the allocated budget.

Most of the times, some goods can be made a compromise with, in order to accentuate on others. The market offers a wide choice of manufactures in different price ranges and budget guidelines are very important for the right choice of products.

Obviously, this is a small part of all the questions that will arise when working with an interior designer. Therefore, when choosing whom to work with, whether it is a studio or a designer, decide on the one whose work you fancy, but also the one that you can communicate easily with, since every project is a process in which both sides should actively participate in.
